Case Western Reserve University, also known as Case Western, Case or CWRU, is a private research university located in Cleveland, which is a city in the US state of Ohio, serving as the county seat of Cuyahoga County (the most populous county in the state), with a population of more than 478 000 inhabitants, as estimated during the 2000 census.
Case was created in 1967, but dates since 1826, when Western Reserve College was founded, in Hudson, OH, the region's most populated area, at the time. In 1882, the school moved to its present location, in Cleveland, with funding from Amasa Stone, and changed its name to Western Reserve University, the previous name, by which the university was known, before adopting its current one.
CWRU's athletic teams are known as the Spartans and they compete in NCAA Division III, UAA. Their distinctive colors are Case blue, white and Case gray.
Among Case Western's students, alumni, and faculty, there are also: Victor Ciorbea - Prime Minister of Romania, Alene B. Duerk - first female rear admiral in the United States Navy, T.
